Mosaics are a popular form of art that have been around since the 4th century. Most ancient mosaic pieces are found in Christian cathedrals located in modern-day Istanbul. This was Constantinople, the capital of the Holy Roman Empire. The popularity of mosaic designs declined after this period because they were very labor-intensive. However, mosaics are still made today. They can be found at various places such as the Museum of Natural History station of the New York subway. Mosaics have become a very popular swimming pool design. These swimming pool mosaics are not as intricate as those found in Christian cathedrals but are still capable of adding some aesthetic pleasure to anyone who sees these works of art. These swimming pool mosaics provide a unique and elegant design to a swimming pool floor. Because of this, many resorts and private pool owners are now changing to swimming pool mosaics as their swimming pool floor design. Pool mosaic There are two common types of swimming pool mosaic designs. These are Aegean and pebble pool mosaic designs. Aegean mosaics Intricate geometric patterns such as squares and rectangles are earmarks of Aegean mosaics. These pool mosaic designs are similar to designs found on ancient Greek jars. Aegean pool mosaic designs are commonly used for the border of the pool rather than the floor of the pool. The tiles used for this design are usually high quality ceramic tiles. Each tile is different and while they are basically the same color, each tile has a different shade. This hodge podge of colors and shapes presents an individual with an array of colors and images that has great aesthetic appeal. Pebble mosaics Pebble mosaics use small rocks for a pool mosaic design. Just like Aegean mosaics, pebble mosaics are composed of pebbles that have different shades of a single color. They are also designed geometrically. Pebbles for these pool designs come in varying shapes, unlike the uniform square tiles in Aegean mosaics. Swimming pool mosaic tiles Swimming pool mosaic tiles are not limited to these two designs. There are dozens of designs available. Customers may want tiles of differing shapes and sizes to create a large centerpiece, such as a marine animal, for their swimming pool floor. The companies that offer this type of swimming pool mosaic tiles usually have a set of tiles for these images. However, for a more personal touch, custom-made swimming pool mosaic tiles are available. These custom swimming pool mosaic tiles create a unique design. Installment of both fixed and custom pool tiles go through the same process wherein each tile is laid on a bed of cement. When the cement sets, the tiles are then covered with plaster to prevent them from eroding. |
