A swimming pool is great fun for the whole family, but like any other aspect of a home, it can begin to look run-down in a number of years. Styles change, too, and an older pool can begin to look dated long before it has worn out its usefulness. Here are some ideas for giving new life to your swimming pool through remodeling.
1. How about changing the tile or coping around the perimeter of the pool? If the pool doesn't have water line tile trim, this can be a simple but effective update. Installing rock or paving stone coping trim makes a pool look modern and stylish as well.
2. Change the deck. Decking is the term used to refer not only to wooden decks on the back of a home or around a pool, but also any sort of surface around a pool. Concrete decking is nice in that it is impervious to wet feet, and can be installed in colors and patterns. Stamped concrete pool areas and patios are very up-to-the-minute.
3. A waterfall or a fountain can be installed to update your pool. These can be surrounded by natural stone and landscaping, and can be included as part of the design of the pool.
4. Speaking of plants, landscaping in the back yard will update the look of an older pool, and turn your pool area into a paradise. If the budget allows, have irrigation features included so that you can care for the landscape from the same central location where you service your pool.
5. How about installing an outdoor kitchen, or otherwise renovating your outdoor eating and entertaining area. People are installing stainless steel appliances and mosaic counter tops in their pool areas these days. Drinks can be accessible from a swim up bar. Let the cook-outs begin!
6. Installing lighting can greatly enhance your enjoyment of your pool. Consider accent lights underneath the water and others shining on the water for a beautiful setting for night parties.
7. Change your fencing. Many areas require that pools be fenced anyway, so why not use that requirement as a reason to install attractive privacy fencing. Check with local zoning regulations to be sure the fence you want to install meets area requirements.
Any of these ideas can give your pool area a face lift and make it even more enjoyable for many years to come.
