Many people enjoy swimming, but wonder how safe it is to use the public pool. A great option is to install a pool at home. The problem is, however, if you choose a cheap vinyl liner inground pool or an aboveground pool you will be replacing and patching vinyl. On the other hand, if you get an expensive concrete pool, your backyard will be torn up for weeks. Perhaps the best answer is a (nearly) maintenance-free fiberglass inground pool.
A fiberglass swimming pool can be installed within a few days. Once the hole is dug, which takes maybe a few hours, the pool can be set in place by crane. There is more good news, though, and that is that the material they are made of is flexible and durable. Fiberglass pools can withstand freezing and thawing for many years. Unlike concrete pools, they never need resurfacing. Sometimes hairline fractures occur in the gel finish, but fiberglass pools rarely form any sort of genuine cracks or leaks.
What really makes fiberglass pools easier on maintenance than other types is in keeping the water clean. The plaster on the inside of a concrete pool can radically affect the pH level of the water. Because it is chemically non-reactive, fiberglass does not require as much addition of chemicals to keep the pH right. Concrete is also bad for making a place where algae can grow. Concrete pools are simply harder to keep clean. Fiberglass pools are smooth and non-reactive. Any algae growth can be easily brushed off the walls and into the main drain.
Fiberglass pools require less chemicals, and they require shorter times of running the pump and filter to keep the water nice. In the long run, this saves money and energy. If a ring should occur around the top of the water level, like a bathtub ring, you can wash it away with a non-abrasive cleanser.
Fiberglass pools come in many shapes, designs, and sizes. Most have built in steps, and some have built in fiber-optic lights and fountains. Your contractor can help you design landscaping, waterfalls, patio living space, and other options to help you enjoy your pool to the full. Often your fiberglass pool will come with a lifetime guarantee. Choosing a fiberglass pool over the other options may cost a little more in the beginning, but it is likely to save expense and hassle in the long run.
